Former Vice President of Information Technology Operations at Netflix Michael kailHe is accused of accepting bribes from companies that wanted to do business with Netflix during his tenure.
Kail was found guilty by a jury after a week-and-a-half-long trial on allegations of bribery, fraud and money laundering in connection with commissions he received from technology companies that partnered with the broadcaster.
Kail, who worked at Netflix from 2011-2014, left the company in 2014 as Yahoo’s CIO. After his departure, Netflix sued Kaili, accusing him of fraud and violating his loyalty obligations, but in 2015 they reached an out-of-court agreement.
Kail was re-tried in 2018 after an investigation by the FBI and the Internal Revenue Service. The plaintiff provided evidence that Kail had taken bribes from nine technology companies that wanted to trade with Netflix and that he had entered into contracts to receive 15 percent of the invoiced amount.
Kail, who was convicted of 28 of the 29 separate crimes alleged by the jury on Friday, has a minimum sentence of 20 years in prison. During his tenure, Kail reportedly received more than $ 500,000 in bribes and stock options from nine technology companies that provided products or services to Netflix.
