According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), as of September 2020, the unemployment rate, which covers October and November, fell to 12.7 percent in October and 0.7 points.
According to TUIK, the number of unemployed people aged 15 and over decreased by 391,000 to 4,500,000 compared to the same period last year. During this period, the unemployment rate outside agriculture decreased by 0.9 percent to 14.8 percent.
During the same period, the number of employees decreased by 896 thousand to 27 million 447 thousand people, and the employment rate decreased by 2.3 points to 43.6 percent.
The labor force in October 2020 decreased by 1 million 288 thousand people to 31 million 452 thousand people compared to the same period of the previous year, and the business participation rate decreased by 3.0 percent to 50.0 percent.
Youth unemployment rate 24.9 percent
For the young population in the 15-24 age group, the unemployment rate was 24.9 percent, a decrease of 0.4 percent, and the employment rate was 30.6 percent, a decrease of 2.2 percent compared to the same period last year.
During the same period, the labor force participation rate decreased by 3.0 points to 40.8 percent. According to TUİK, the ratio of those in neither education nor employment was 27.6 percent, an increase of 1.6 percentage points compared to the same period last year.
