Turkish F-16s fly over the Greek Islands

The Greek Defense Ministry said two Turkish F-16 fighter jets flew over Koyun Island yesterday afternoon. According to Greek state television, the fighter jets flew at an altitude of 4,500 meters above the residential island. The Greek Ministry of Defense announced that in March, Turkish warplanes flew over the Greek islands in the Aegean four times in total.

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and his Greek counterpart Nikos Dendias are scheduled to meet in Ankara on April 14. In a statement so far, Dendias said he was ready to meet if the crisis between the two countries in the Mediterranean and the Aegean did not escalate.

Dendias will go to Ankara next week

During a meeting with Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic, Dendias said he would travel to Ankara next week during a visit to Serbia on Monday. “But of course the right to have a dominant climate and Turkey will intervene in my visit unless there are provocative measures,” Dendias said.

The German government mediated the meeting between Dendias and Cavusoglu. Çavuşoğlu, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Greek Prime Minister Kiryakos Mitsotakis also said they wanted to meet.

Disputes between Greece and Turkey over jurisdiction and gas resources in the eastern Mediterranean, asylum seekers on the continental shelf in the Aegean Sea, and irregular migration issues such as the crisis.
